What should I do if the app is slow or freezes?
Check your connection, close and reopen the app, check free storage, restart your device and update it. Still slow? Contact support with your device details.
Updated · iOS and Android
Go through these steps in order, quickest first, and check the app after each one. They come from Apple's and Google's help for apps and devices that are slow or stop responding.
iOS
If your iPhone itself is frozen and won't respond, force restart it first.
- Check your connection. Apps often need an internet connection, and slow performance can come from a congested network or from your device reconnecting to cell towers while you move. Apple suggests waiting, trying a different location or switching to Wi-Fi.
- If the app isn't responding, close and reopen it. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause (on an iPhone with a Home button, double-click it) to open the App Switcher, swipe right to find your exam app, then swipe up on it. Then open the app again. Apple advises closing an app only when it's unresponsive: closing apps unnecessarily can slow down your device.
- Turn off Low Power Mode. It makes some features work slower; while it's on, the battery icon is yellow. Go to Settings › Battery (on iPhone 15 and later, then Power Mode) and turn off Low Power Mode.
- Check the temperature. A device that is too hot or too cold can run slower. Keep your device at a moderate temperature.
- Check your storage. Open Settings › General › iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage). Apple recommends keeping at least 1 GB of free space to avoid slowdowns. If you need to free up space, don't delete your exam app: Apple notes that deleting an app "removes the app and its related data."
- Restart your device. Restart your iPhone or iPad, then open the app again.
- Update the app. Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then tap App Updates.
- Update iOS or iPadOS. If there's no update for your exam app, go to Settings › General › Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions.
